“My goal is for every pregnant woman to feel safe, happy, empowered, and educated throughout their care.”

We are proud and excited to announce that through a competitive grant awarded to us by the Virginia Health Care Foundation, we have added a full-time advanced practice clinician, Lisa Farricker, to broaden our scope of services by offering full-term prenatal care. Our prenatal care will use a cutting-edge model called Pregnancy Centering.

Pregnancy Centering decreases the rate of preterm and low weight babies, increases breastfeeding rates, and leads to better pregnancy spacing. Centering has been shown to nearly eliminate racial disparities in preterm birth. African American women, who are at higher risk for preterm birth in the US, experience a lower risk of preterm birth when enrolled in Centering Pregnancy than in traditional care.

The model features group sessions and is associated with better health outcomes for both mother and baby.

Lisa Farricker is a Family Nurse Practitioner who comes from a nursing background focused on women’s and children’s health.  She received her undergraduate nursing degree from Shenandoah University in 2012 and her master’s degree from Shenandoah University in 2020. She began her nursing career in the emergency department and transitioned to the postpartum unit and newborn nursery at Winchester Medical Center. Originally from Connecticut, Lisa, has lived in Winchester since 2010.  She enjoys reading, creating art of all kinds, and spending time and making lots of that art with her young son.

Lisa discussed joining the Clinic and managing our expanded prenatal care program, “I am excited to come to the clinic and expand the options for our patients to have their primary care and prenatal care in the same familiar location from providers they may already know and trust.  Our expanded full-term prenatal services will help the women we care for have healthier pregnancies providing them comprehensive evidence-based care from conception until they go to the hospital for delivery.  We have incredible resources in the community both independent and associated with WMC: which is consistently recognized for superior maternity care. My goal is for every pregnant woman to feel safe, happy, empowered, and educated throughout their care.”
